Barry Matchett is Head of External Affairs for the Midwest and Gulf at Clearway Energy. In this role he is responsible for developing and leading legislative and regulatory work in eighteen states in support of renewable and storage project development. He is also responsible for leading project-level campaigns to win permitting and other incentive approvals. Barry has extensive experience in building bi-partisan coalitions between farmers and ranchers, local and state elected officials, organized labor, and community leaders to support state legislation or specific clean energy projects. Previous to working at Clearway Energy, Barry had similar responsibilities at NRG Energy and the Environmental Law & Policy Center. Barry started his work in the energy policy sector in 2001 as the senior policy advisor to the Chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission.
Outside of work Barry has been an officer and Board Chairman of the Board of Directors for the United States Modern Pentathlon Association since 2008. He is very excited that the 2028 Summer Olympics are returning to the US in Los Angeles.
Barry is a graduate of Grinnell College and the University of Chicago and resides with his family in Chicago.
